What is deepfake candidate?

A deepfake candidate is a fraudulent job applicant using AI-generated or manipulated identity assets, synthetic faces, cloned voices, live video puppeting, or proxy interviewees. Deepfake hiring-fraud attempts rose more than 1,300% from 2023 to 2024, and Gartner projects 1 in 4 candidate profiles will be fake by 2028.
